What does the Lebanese Option Gathering stand for?
The Lebanese Option Gathering was formed to reaffirm the Lebanese identity, which some political parties have sacrificed to narrow regional interests. The Gathering was founded based on a belief that politics should remain civil and peaceful in order to improve the quality of life. The citizen should be the first and foremost concern of politics, because we believe that the interest of the individual citizen cannot be pursued except by preserving the interests of society at large.
The Lebanese Option Gathering was born from a Lebanese consciousness and awareness of the need to create a climate that protects the State and meets the ambitions of its citizens. It is a political course of action that is working to undo what the corruptors have wronged since Independence. Building a modern civil State that serves all Lebanese society is the only hope for saving Lebanon. This requires a basis on which to build a founding framework for our political course of action. Therefore, we have compiled the following ten amendments.
The Ten Amendments:
- The First Amendment: Lebanon, within its internationally recognized borders, is my country. My loyalty is only to Lebanon. Our agenda is the agenda of all Lebanese, which is building a modern 21st century State.
- The Second Amendment: Every Lebanese is a brother in citizenship. Therefore his blood, money, and property are off limits to me. Loyalty to Lebanon comes before all other considerations.
- The Third Amendment: No enmity should exist among the Lebanese people. Loyalty to Lebanon alone unites them, and history proves that they are capable of peaceful, civilized coexistence.
- The Fourth Amendment: The Lebanese constitution is the contract around which all Lebanese must unite. Our moral and religious duty requires us to respect it and adhere to it.
- The Fifth Amendment: The freedom of thought, speech and persuasion is a divine right for all Lebanese. No one among us is an intellectual or political traitor. The traitor is he who violates the law. He who accuses others of being traitors, and especially among the Shia’s, goes against the concept of the Shia faith and heritage, which is built on Ijtihad i.e. diversity of opinion.
- The Sixth Amendment: My friend is a friend to all of Lebanon, and the enemy of my fellow Lebanese is also my enemy.
- The Seventh Amendment: Defending Lebanon is the absolute duty of all Lebanese. Therefore, weapons must remain in the hands of the Lebanese State without exception.
- The Eighth Amendment: Religion is a private spiritual matter. My relationship with my fellow Lebanese should not be governed by his belonging to this or that religion.
- The Nineth Amendment: I respect all different political opinions as long as they are truly Lebanese.
- The Tenth Amendment: The establishment of a true modern State is my priority.
For this will attract investments to Lebanon and create job opportunities and therefore improve the quality of life. Foreign allegiances and agendas destroy Lebanon and benefit no one besides the specific group of people tied to that agenda.
